Sushi By Boū Sizzles From Its Hidden Corner of New Rochelle

Sushi by Boū offers an intimate, artful omakase experience at a nice price.

With its remarkably unassuming façade and minimal street presence, you may just miss the circular sign hugging the fish logo at New Rochelle’s latest sushi spot. But the magic happens once you step inside this speakeasy-inspired Japanese restaurant that’s become a go-to for fresh, authentic omakase.

This is the 23rd Sushi By Boū location for partners Michael Sinensky, Erika London, and Richie Romero. Just like the rest in NYC, Nashville, Chicago, and Puerto Rico, the design boasts a signature combo of 60s pop art, 70s disco, and 80s graffiti. A retro portrait of Marilyn Monroe hangs on a colorful wall covered in hearts, while brightly painted ceramic hands flashing peace signs adorn a shelf near the entrance. Just outside the restaurant space, there’s a gallery wall that features rotating artists, including Arlene Gottfried (older sister of comedian Gilbert Gottfried), a New York City street photographer known for her candid portrayals of working-class neighborhoods. It’s a real vibe.
