Join Us at the First Westchester Plant Swap & Sip
Do you have a green thumb? If so, we have just the event for you.
This Saturday, June 10, Alvin & Friends Restaurant at 14 Memorial Highway will be hosting a Plant Swap & Sip event from 3-5pm. Sign up here on Eventbrite.
This innovative way to learn about plants and share fun times – and plant-based cocktail specialties – is becoming more and more popular as a social activity.
New Rochelle author Kamili Bell Hill, whose new book Happy Plants, Happy You is due out in the fall, is hosting the event, along with co-hosts Influencer Niyya Pinckney from The Bloom Journey and New Rochelle Residents and Restauranteurs Gwen and Alvin Clayton. Ms. Bell Hill has a highly successful platform called Plantblerd that provides plant-related tips, trends and travels to more than 50K followers.
If you have never been to a Plant Swap, this is a wonderful opportunity to check one out. It is a social event where you get to learn about plant care and varieties, while making new friends at the same time.
You simply arrive with one small plant or plant cutting that is labeled with its botanical name. At the Plant Swap, you place the one you brought with you on a shared table for someone else to take home while selecting one of the others for yourself.
“It is such a fun way to learn and meet,” says Ms. Bell Hill. With Juneteenth around the corner on June 19, the event will also feature information on the myriad contributions of people of color to our understanding and knowledge of plants, botany, and agriculture today. Sponsor Montefiore New Rochelle will also have helpful information available on plant-based healthy eating and lifestyles.
Also returning this weekend is our fun, creative Grow Note program. Keep your eyes open for the inspirational chalk artwork that will appear somewhere Downtown this Saturday and next Thursday, June 15.
If you find it, snap a picture, post it on social media with the #IFounditNR and @newrodowntown hashtags and you might just win a terrific meal at your favorite Downtown dining spot. Just post the photo – don’t share where you found it!
