What’s on Tap this Weekend?

Great Outdoor Activities!

The kids may be back in school, but there’s still plenty of summer weather fun happening Downtown this weekend. Its not as hot as it had been a few weeks ago, which makes it perfect for walking Downtown to check out the great sounds, fun shops, and delicious eats.

The weekend kicks off with a terrific cultural celebration of Latin Heritage Month, which began this week on September 15. Come on down to Library Green’s Ruby Dee Park on this Saturday September 17 between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm for an exciting first peak at the Queen City of the Sound International Jazz Festival featuring music by Robert Quintero and Carlitos Padron.

The New Rochelle Street Fair takes place the following day. Join us in the streets around City Hall from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sunday, September 18 for plenty of vendors, entertainment, excitement, balloons, and activities. Click here for more information and details on volunteer opportunities!

Downtown Restaurants Will Make Your Autumn Sizzle

Not ready to say goodbye to the hot days of summer? With the arrival of cool, crisp autumn air, there are plenty of wonderful restaurants that will give more than a little sizzle this season. Here are just a few of the hottest four-alarm dining experiences you can find here:

Little Mexican Café at 581 Main St has Chile Verde Dona Natalia Style with green spicy sauce and plenty of jalapenos.

Shirley Flavours of India at 15 Leroy Place has a delicious Chicken, Fish, or Shrimp Vindaloomade with homemade chili sauce that will make your taste buds pop.

Smoke & Spice at 15 Anderson St has their signatureJerk Chicken with their top-secret special homemade spicy Jerk Seasoning.

KRAVE at 8 South Division St offersPeppered Shrimp with a Scotch Bonnet Pepper Sauce.

La Herraduragoes heavy on the dried chilis for their Camarones a la Diabla that has a most spicy red sauce.

Jolos at 49 Lawton has Vegan Jerk Falafel that features their signature Jerk Seasoning.

Finally, Modernat 310 Huguenot definitely serves up a spicy meatball – but it’s their Fra Diavalo and Zuppe de Pesce with the red pepper flakes that really get the fire going. Their Chicken Pappardelle with hot chili peppers also makes for a real hot (date) night.

Summer 2022 Was a Great Success

Let the Planning for Summer 2023 Begin!

They say that Macy’s starts planning the following year’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on the Monday after the holiday. The same can be said – almost – for the great events and activities that take place each summer Downtown. While summer 2022 is barely behind us, we’re already thinking about what we’d like to do in summer 2023.

It was certainly a fun summer!

Our Party in the Park events on Thursday nights with our terrific New Rochelle Public Library and the New Rochelle Parks Department partners drew hundreds for outdoor activities, music and more.

Library Green’s Ruby Dee Park was filled with happy children, dining parents, music, magic, gifts and more. We must give a special shout-out as well to our participating Downtown restaurants who provided great deals and meals with their summer Special Take-Out Dinners in July and August.

The music didn’t stop there. The Summer Sounds concerts brought so many musical genres to our newest pop up park, NewRoParc, on Fridays and Saturdays.

Howdy Partner(s)!

Downtown New Rochelle is a community in motion thanks to all the great things happening here every day.

The NRBID appreciates the wonderful partnerships with the many merchants, restauranteurs, service providers, property owners, residents, community groups, developers, the Planning DepartmentNRPS, NRPL, NRPRNRPD, NRFD, IDA, the Chamber, and our very energized City Staff who together make it all happen.

Just a few of the fun collaborations taking place around Downtown are:

The Stella celebrated the elegant new Joe Coffee shop in their building with a festive ribbon-cutting event.

I Got the Juice at 579A Main St is working with One Clinton Parkto help its residents stay on track with a more healthy start to the day!

NewRoParc on the corner of Main and North Ave is continuing with classes from Westchester Yoga on weekend mornings and more new music on weekend evenings.

Monroe College, which just welcomed its Fall semester students back to campus, is hosting an evening of music and wine tasting on Sept. 23 to benefit New Rochelle’s amazing Songcatchers organization. (Get tickets here.)

What’s In Store for Next Month?

We are excited for the return of the Queen City of the Sound International Jazz International Festival, which will take place the first weekend of October. Among other fun, exciting activities to look forward to are the NRPL’s Family Fair, the return of the storefront Halloween windows (thanks to The Chamber, the City, the NRBID and our talented NRPS PAVE program students!), and The New Rochelle Council on the Arts’ annual ArtsFest. The month ends, of course, with our Annual Downtown Halloween Children’s Costume Parade down Main St and Treat Giveaway in Ruby Dee Park on Saturday morning Oct 29 from 10am-12pm. Make sure you save the date and plan your kiddies’ costumes!

Please join us in New Ro Downtown to experience it all!
