October Starts Tomorrow –

And So Does Plenty of Seasonal Fall Fun in Downtown New Ro

Goodbye summer, autumn has arrived!

We have plenty of activities to keep our local residents and neighboring communities busy in this new month of October.

In the mood for some live football action?

Downtown’s Monroe College is having its annual homecoming football game at Flowers Park this Saturday, October 1. The game will be played rain or shine, minus any lightning. Kick-off is at 1:00 pm. Good luck, Mustangs!

If you’d rather read about sports than watch them live, you might find some possibilities at the Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library’s annual Book Sale from 10am-4pm on Saturday October 1 in the lobby of the Library. Great selection and great prices, always.

family fair

For family fun, bring your children and teens to the New Rochelle Public Library’s annual Family Fun Day on Sunday October 2. In keeping with the theme, you’ll find that Reading is Your Super Power at the NRPL!  Join them for a fun schedule of activities that include a magic show, super power costume making, selfie opportunities and so much more.

jazz

FLASH NEWS! It will be next weekend instead of tomorrow for the second annual Queen City of the Sound International Jazz Festival tomorrow. The event kicks off at 1:00 pm at Library Green’s Ruby Dee Park. The new rain date – which we may need again– will be on Sunday, October 9.

Scheduled performers throughout the afternoon include Grammy Award winners, big bands, ensembles, and local jazz personalities. Among those scheduled to appear: Oscar Hernández & the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, The David Lee Jones Quartet, Nanny Assis & the Brazilian Experience, Mimi Jones/Global/Jazz Community All Star Women Band and the Rocky Middleton Jazz Ensemble.

This wonderful concert series is made possible through the generous Downtown Revitalization Initiative Grant the City was awarded and a terrific partnership among the Global Jazz Community, New Rochelle Corporation for Local Development (CLD), New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (NRBID), New Rochelle Council of the Arts (NRCA) and New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation.

Getting to this terrific Jazz festival is easy. Just park your car with any of the valets in the municipal parking lots near the park or jump on the free electric Circuit car, which will be having an extra route added for the event.

In New Ro Downtown, there’s always something exciting happening!

Halloween is coming! Time to Plan the Costumes and Treats

Save the date for the New Rochelle Downtown BID’s Annual Main Street Children’s Costume Parade!  We are very excited to host this annual event once again. Click here for last year’s recap.

This October’s parade will being on Main Street near Monroe College on the morning of Saturday, October 29. The line-up will begin at 9:30 am at Monroe College’s Main Hall located on Main Street near Harrison Avenue. From there, our children, friends and parents will parade down our historic Main Street beginning at 10:00 am.

All of the costumed characters will then turn onto Memorial Highway and go straight to Library Green’s Ruby Dee Park, where our merchants and community partners will be greeting the families, friends, and children at a new community TreatsFest with some special treats for the occasion.

After the morning festivities, families are invited to enjoy lunches around Downtown. Look for special pricing and meal deals to celebrate the day at many of our Downtown dining spots.

We cannot, of course, forget our furry friends here in New Rochelle Downtown. They need their annual parade, too. The Pet Palace at 214 North Ave has it covered. They will hold their annual Pet Costume Contest and Haunted House on Sunday October 30.

Pet costume parade will begin at 3pm and the Haunted House for adults, brave children and maybe pets who don’t scare so easily will be later that evening.

We also have to note the annual Halloween-themed windows will be painted during the week of October 17. Once again, our most talented New Rochelle High School art students from the PAVE program will do the honors. This visual transformation will be happening in merchant locations Downtown and also around the City, courtesy of a partnership between the Chamber of Commerce, the City, and the New Rochelle Downtown BID.

It’s fair to say that Downtown’s residential population will be growing by a few pumpkins, ghosts and goblins this month!

Arts Fest 2022 to Take Place Oct 20-23

We’re looking forward to welcoming Arts Fest weekend back on October 20-23!

The New Rochelle Council on the Arts has a jam-packed weekend planned with plenty of options for everyone. Will you tour the beautiful murals around town and meet the talented artists? How about taking in one of the spectacular dance performances or visiting the crafters’ shops to pick up unique, handmade gifts for the winter holidays?

Arts Fest debuts with a music program that will include an original work by Composer Steven Snowden, whose sounds were interestingly inspired by the electronic controls and algorithms of our traffic lights at our Downtown’s Centre and Huguenot Avenues! The free, hour-long music program will be at the New Rochelle Public Library’s Ossie Davis Theater on Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 pm.

Our local business owners and merchants are here to bring you great meals and shopping experiences with the best of seasonal food and gifts. Our many caring healthcare practitioners are here to help you feel well and healthy as the final season of 2022 settles in.

New Rochelle Downtown is transforming because of the dedication of our property owners, our residents, and our City’s community partners all working together to make Downtown a wonderful place to live, work, visit, and study.
